Spring Exhibit of the Nature Artists’ Guild of The Morton Arboretum, April 18 and 19, 2015

The Nature Artists’ Guild of The Morton Arboretum is proud to announce our Featured Artist of the 2015 Annual Spring Exhibit, Nancy Halliday.  You can view more of Nancy’s work and read all about her artistic journey by clicking on the “Our Current Featured Artist” tab above.

The Spring Exhibit will feature over 200 pieces of artwork by more than 50 of our talented Nature Artists’ Guild members.  It is a wonderful opportunity to see some of the best nature art in the area, in a beautiful setting, the Thornhill Education Center of The Morton Arboretum.

The exhibit is open to the public on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 10 am until 4 pm.  There is no admission charge, but gate fees do apply to non-members of The Morton Arboretum, located at 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle, IL.

A special reception for Arboretum members and guests of the artists will be held on April 17, 2015 from 5 until 9 pm.

Presenting Crow-na Lisa

Here she is!  The next time you visit The Morton Arboretum, please be sure to swing by Meadow Lake, near the Visitor’s Center, to check out the 2014 Nature Artists’ Guild’s contribution to the annual Scarecrow Trail.

The Crow-na Lisa is our slightly scary, slightly humorous take on a painting that you may recognize.  Whether or not she fulfills her job of scaring away any crows, though, remains to be seen.

Thank you to all the artists who worked so hard to create Crow-na Lisa, especially Patty Koenigsaecker, who created the design and prepared the “canvas”, both structurally and artistically, and Sharon Malec who had the wonderfully creative idea of painting a scarecrow, rather than constructing an actual scarecrow.  The short slide show below follows construction from start to finish.

Please click on this link to read more about Scarecrow Trail, which will be featured at The Morton Arboretum throughout the month of October.

How About Those Dahlias!

Thanks to Suzanne Wegener, Carol Jean Rogalski and Mary Jo Sinclair for sharing these photos from the recent Nature Artists’ Guild paint-out at Catherine Donovan’s garden. The garden was beautiful, and how about those dahlias!  Thank you so much, Catherine, for sharing your lovely garden with the Nature Artists’ Guild.

You can click on any image to enlarge it or to start a slide show of all the images.  Enjoy!

An Evening of Learning and Laughs

The 2014 Nature Artists’ Guild “Artist Trio” evening was a huge success!  Three wonderfully talented artist members of the Guild shared many of their artistic trials, tips and techniques.

Peggy McGahan shared some great new ideas for livening up watercolors, Mary Ann Jimenez showed us the fascinating art of Metalpoint, and Charlotte Doyle Leavitt created a fresh, lively watercolor collage inspired by paintings and objects from a recent seaside vacation.

Thank you, Gail Diedrichsen and Carol Jean Rogalski, for sharing these photos.

Speaking of Birds – Updates!

(Originally posted May 2014)

The migrating birds are here (and The Morton Arboretum certainly has attracted its share), but very soon all the leaves will be on the trees and even though you may still hear the birds, you might not be able to find them.  Before you know it, they will be gone again, heading towards their breeding grounds.

The above artwork featuring birds, created by Nature Artists’ Guild members, just may inspire you to get out there and take a look.  All artwork is copyrighted by the artists and is the sole property of the artists.

All Nature Artists’ Guild members are invited to submit images of their artwork (up to four images) featuring birds to be added to this slide show.  Please send your artwork  to Evelyn Grala (you can find her contact information in your Yearbook).  When submitting artwork to Evelyn, please indicate whether it may be used in the Quarterly, on this site, or both.  We look forward to seeing even more Nature Artists’ Guild birds!
