I have always loved to draw, especially flowers and plants that have fascinated me since childhood. I have always loved to tell stories, connecting with other people to inform them, inspire them, or make them laugh. And I have always loved being challenged by puzzles, working intuitively to figure things out. As a developing artist, I found a welcoming home exploring the myriad of botanical subjects in creation – sometimes in partnership with birds and insects that live among them, rely on them, and support their continued existence. I enjoy observing and revealing the intimate details of nature as these subjects change through the seasons.
It is the goal of my work to acquaint the viewer with the surprising and often unseen beauty of sprouting seeds, opening buds, falling petals, flying feathers, turning leaves, and twisting branches – in order to inspire appreciation and, hopefully, conservation. Nature can often be amazingly resilient, but heartbreakingly fragile. To me, there is amazing truth in both. Telling the stories and revealing the secrets of these incredible creations can build a community to cherish and preserve them.
