Special Exhibits Chairperson Position Description

The Nature Artists’ Guild is managed exclusively by volunteers. While there are basic duties required for each position, volunteers are also encouraged to suggest and implement (with agreement by the board) their own ideas. The Guild is always growing and changing and welcomes creativity from its leaders! Volunteers will be able to work with experienced committee members until they are comfortable working independently.

Position Title

Special Exhibits Committee Co-Chairperson

Time Involvement

Typically averages fewer than 8 hours per month. Chairpersons are welcome to ask for assistance from other members or form sub-committees when needed. Chairpersons are asked to serve for at least one full calendar year when possible. (Note – this particular position normally involves two co-chairpersons.)

Basic Required Duties

  • Locate Venues for at least two Special Exhibits per year for members of the Nature Artists’ Guild. The special exhibits are usually held for approximately one month, and may or may not include an artists’ reception.
  • Work with the venues to schedule the exhibits, discuss arrangements, (including the possibility of an artists’ reception, and what type of publicity the venue provides).
  • Work with Nature Artists’ Guild communications committees to coordinate prospectus and registration form distribution, as well as the creation of posters, postcards, gallery tags, or artwork lists or programs when applicable.
  • Receive registrations from members and create a list of artists and artwork for use at check-ins and check-outs.
  • Arrange for and attend artwork check-ins and check-outs at the venues.
  • Assist venues with hanging artwork when necessary.
  • Coordinate and attend Artists’ receptions when applicable.
  • Attend board meetings when possible. Meetings are held the first Thursday of most months at 6 pm at The Morton Arboretum or online.

Interested Nature Artists’ Guild members with questions are encouraged to email the current Committee Chair or complete this form to be contacted by a board member.
