Tomorrow at Thornhill – Our Newest Member?

In addition to all the other fun things we’ll be working on during our Holiday Exhibit Workshop at Thornhill tomorrow (see details in earlier post), we’ll also be assembling the very first Nature Artists’ Guild Scarecrow for The Morton Arboretum’s annual display.  The gorgeous gal in the sketch below, by Nature Artists’ Guild member Patty Koenigsaecker, is what we hope our scarecrow will look when she’s done.   Don’t you agree she just may be the cutest scarecrow ever?  Please stop by the workshop any time between 10 and 2 to help get her ready for her debut!

Fundraising Workshop Next Weekend!

An important message from our Fundraising Chair, Nancy Thyfault –

Ladies and Gentlemen, mark your calendars! Our Holiday Workshop will be September 17th, 10 am to 2 pm, Room C, Thornhill.

This is your opportunity to create items for our fundraising table at the Holiday Exhibit. Think you aren’t “crafty”- well, it’s more about creating unique items embellished with your artwork! Please join us and we can get you started.

We will have wooden trays, boxes and other pieces that you may paint, faux finish or design however you would like to. Nancy Kolar will be there to help with fabric painting on holiday tote bags- what a great idea for “wrapping” a holiday gift! If you think that you may want to paint a tote bag, you can work up a design in the 8” x 10” range to bring along. You could also bring photos for reference. There will other “projects” to work on as well.

You needn’t stay for the entire time. Many people pick up items and take them home to work on. You may stay, bring lunch and enjoy some creative time with your fellow artists!

Please bring along your favorite brushes and acrylic paints. A container for water is a good idea, too. Thanks to some generous donations, we have plenty of things to work on.

2011 Calendar – Call for Artwork

Once again, we will be publishing a month-at-a-glance calendar to raise funds for the Guild. The calendars will be sold at the Holiday Exhibition.

The calendars make great gifts and are the perfect size for a desktop or windowsill, measuring just under 5 inches wide.

All Guild members are encouraged to submit artwork. Download the instructions and specifications here: 2011 Calendar Information Sheet

The deadline for submissions is September 25, 2010.

As in the past two years, there will be a workshop in October to assemble the printed pages.

If you have questions or need assistance with preparing your work for the calendar, please contact Mary Ingels.

Holiday Exhibit Workshop Scheduled

The annual Holiday Exhibit Workshop is scheduled for September 25, 2010 Thornhill Room B  from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm.  Workshop coordinators Nancy T. and Sharon M. invite all members to  “Join us to create one of a kind treasures for our Artisan Shop (fundraising table). We have gourds, wooden items, and a felting project, which is a new, fun thing for us. Our fabulous team of fabric artists will guide us through the felting project and we will have holiday fabric coasters to sew together- just 4 straight lines of stitching! We will show you how to make a transfer from your own artwork, which can be part of the design on a wooden piece. You just need to bring a color laser copy, which can be made at any office supply store. We will have 2” square mini canvases available to paint any way you want. Add a magnet or a pin back for a miniature, portable piece of art! Continue reading “Holiday Exhibit Workshop Scheduled”

Call for Artwork: 2010 Guild Calendar

Guild Members: If you are interested in submitting artwork for our 2010 calendar, submissions are due September 26, 2009.

In 2009, we produced a desktop calendar featuring the work of Guild members. They were offered for sale at the 2008 Holiday Exhibition;  the 75 copies quickly sold out, generating some much needed revenue for the Guild.

So, we are doing it again! This  year, the pages will be commercially printed. However, we will be assembling them be hand, so will be looking for volunteers.

Detailed specifications can be downloaded here:  NAG 2010 Calendar Information Sheet

Volunteers Wanted! Join the Board

We have three open positions on the Guild board: Treasurer, Recording Secretary and Program Chair. Please consider volunteering for one of these openings. Any member who is up-to-date in their dues is eligible to serve.

The Treasurer is a key position, serving as the custodian of our funds and providing input on budget and financial planning. For the full Treasurer job description, click here to download the PDF file

The Program Chair schedules and coordinates presenters for the Guild’s formal meetings. For the Program Chair job description, click here to download the PDF file

The Recording Secretary records the minutes of all Board meetings and distributes them by e-mail prior to the next meeting.

For additional information, please contact Mary Ingels or one of the incumbents – Peggy West (Treasurer), Kristin Jensen (Recording Secretary), or Karen Willden (Program Chair).

Getting the Word Out!

Guild members converge at meetings  and pass along news. Unfortunately, the news on our members is not always timely. The position of Corresponding Secretary can change that, with your help. Please leave a comment if you know of any member who is recovering from illness, has had a bereavement or may just need an uplifting message! I will send out cards on behalf of our guild. It’s great to let people know that we, as a group, support all of our members. This is above and beyond our art endeavors! You can leave a comment on this blog or email Nancy Thyfault at nancypi5@yahoo.com.
